Memorial Service for Colonel Emil R. Gueguen

Mt. Soledad is an important part of San Diego's history. Mountaintop transmitters on the site were part of the military's early-warning defense system. The Lindbergh's used it as a jump-off point for glider flights. It has long been used for navigational purposes, and it is the site of the Veterans War Memorial. The American Legion Post #275 of La Jolla founded the Mt. Soledad Memorial Association (MSMA) in 1952. The MSMA purchased the land at the top of Mt. Soledad in 1999 and in 2000 constructed the Memorial Walls as a lasting tribute to war veterans.
