Our Mission
An independent national archive preserving the stories of Americans who have served, sacrificed, and strengthened the fabric of this nation.
The Best of America™ is an independent national archive dedicated to honoring the individuals, institutions, and communities that represent the highest ideals of American life. We believe that every generation produces extraordinary people whose stories deserve to be preserved — not just for today, but in perpetuity.
Founded during America's 250th anniversary year, the archive was created to ensure that the quiet acts of courage, service, and sacrifice that define this nation are never forgotten. From veterans and first responders to community leaders and historic institutions, these are the stories that textbooks often miss but that communities carry in their hearts.
Every record in this archive is preserved permanently. These stories will endure as long as this nation does.
This archive belongs to the American people. Access is free, open, and unrestricted — always.
We are not affiliated with any government entity, political party, or commercial interest. Our only allegiance is to the truth of these stories.
In recognition of the nation's semiquincentennial, The Best of America Archive has selected 250 founding honorees — individuals and institutions whose stories exemplify the best of what this country has produced over two and a half centuries. These founding records represent every branch of service, every region of the country, and every form of sacrifice that has kept this republic intact.
Nominations remain open. If you know an American whose story deserves to be preserved, we invite you to submit their name for consideration.
